Country star Sam Hunt has called his 2019 arrest on driving under the influence charges a “wake-up call.”

During an interview with Evan Paul on Taste of Country Nights, Hunt said, “Well, it was a wake-up call immediately, you know, the next day. I think over time, you know, you reflect on it, you realize, you know, you learn from your mistakes.”

Hunt tells Taste of Country Nights, “The song itself though, it’s not, you know, it may seem autobiographical if you connect the dots. But, you know, I made a point not to go into the details in the song about my story.”

“I tried to zoom it out and make it more relatable so that it feels more like it’s about making a big mistake or messing up, and having your significant other stick with you through that. And realizing through that how much she loves you and how much you love her, and how strong your bond is,” he added.
